A Few of My Favorite Things~McDonald's Oatmeal *UPDATE*
About a week ago I wrote about McDonalds' new oatmeal HERE, which I am in love with. Today, I recevied a message from McDonalds' public relations department. They had run across my post, noticed that I had not been able to come up with nutrition information and kindly provided it for us.
"Since you asked about the nutritional information, I thought I would send it along to you and your readers. One complete serving of the product contains 260 calories and 4 grams of fat."
Not bad...at all.
I'm thrilled to find out that this item is as healthy as I thought it was. :)
Thanks for the info, Jaime (and, thanks for the offer for a free cup of oatmeal!)
So, when you are sick of cake, pie, cookies and fudge after the holiday binge...run out to McDonalds and get something healthy...Fruit and Maple Oatmeal.
****This is an update as of May 15, 2011. I've had lots of questions about how differing variations on the oatmeal affect the nutritional value. Please understand that the original post on this was written over a year and a half ago while this product was being tested in my area for potential national coverage. I am personally glad that they decided to keep the oatmeal. But...they've tweaked it some since this post was written. I doubt that the nutritional facts here will mirror what you can find on the company website. For nutrition facts on the current product, please check out the McDonald's website. Thanks! ~Amy****

It's great. How much fiber
ReplyDeleteMcDonald's corporate did not offer that info in our last communication. Interestingly, you are the second person to ask this week :) I sent them an email a couple of days ago to see if they can provide it for us. I'll update once I find out.
ReplyDeleteI have been searching for the fiber content too. Trying to determine how many WW points too.
ReplyDeleteThe fiber info would be really helpful! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI just posted the fiber content...find it at the top of my blog :)
ReplyDeleteNot to be picky...but did they mention what constitute's a serving?
ReplyDeleteThe nutritional info that they gave me is for the container as it is presented for purchase. I just received an email from them with all of the nutritional information. I am going to update my post from January 11, "Fruit and Maple Oatmeal" with the full details. Hope this helps!
ReplyDeleteI love the oatmeal. I tried it several weeks ago and am delighted to find out they offer it all day, not just for breakfast.
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of people agree with you. I hope they expand it to their entire market, and keep it on the menu! I have family down South who are dying to try it!
ReplyDeleteI eat this every day and LOVE it. I'm glad you posted the nutritional info because I haven't been able to find it anywhere. I am so HAPPY to know it isn't loaded with calories and/or fat because usually anything I like as much as this is totally unhealthy. Thanks for the information!!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I could help! I love it too, and I agree...I was shocked at how low the fat and calories are. I often pull through just to pick it up as a snack :)
ReplyDeleteI am so HAPPY to know it isn't loaded with calories and/or fat because usually anything I like as much as this is totally unhealthy. Thanks for the information!!
ReplyDeleteThe oatmeal has been available for awhile now, but for some reason, McDonald's still doesn't have any info about its nutrition easily available -- it's not on the sheet they give out at stores or on the website. Thanks for the info here!! Since they've been so responsive to you, could you email them about getting it on the website? Shari
ReplyDeletedo u know the sugar content?
ReplyDeleteShari...it isn't on anything official because we are a test market for the oatmeal. We are the only part of the country that has it (I had family down South go looking for it and McDonalds down there had never heard of it. Their marketing rep confirmed this for me.) You will not see it go on the website or info sheet unless it goes national.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous...I finally got all of the nutritional info here http://masondixonmagnolia.blogspot.com/2010/01/fruit-and-maple-oatmealwe-have-answer.html
You will find that it contains 31g of sugar, but after a little research, I discovered that 20g of that is natural sugar from the dried fruit and apples. I realize that this might be too much sugar for some diets. I hope that helps :)
Yeah, but here's the trick. What if that little bucket is 2 or 3 "servings"?!
ReplyDeleteAccording to the my packages (bob's redmill and irish oats) you will get 200 Calories from 1/2 cup (dry- before cooking).
ReplyDelete31g sugar = ~120Calories
I can easily see McDonald's tweaking the recipe to make sure the item has more sweet and less oats to appeal to consumer desires. This means that McDonald's oatmeals would likely lose the benefits of oats (fiber, nutrition, satiety, starch (not sugar) for energy)
I fell in love with their oatmeal so much I decided to start making my own which tastes just as good, if not better, and is cheaper! :) I use the less caloric version of maple and brown sugar oatmeal (1 pk), add some green and red apples, craisins, and golden raisins! YUM YUM! I make it at work EVERY morning and it has helped me maintain my caloric intake as well as save a few bucks! :)
ReplyDeleteI tried their oatmeal this week. I am concerned about the nutritional info that was listed on the package. McDonald's oatmeal contains 32g of sugar(w/brown sugar, 18g (w/o brown sugar)! I checked the package of my son's Kroger brand apple cinnamon oatmeal, and it only contains 10g sugar. This product is not low enough to be part of any diabetics daily diet plan. I will continue to make my own version of this at home at a lot lower sugar and calorie content. The taste was not as good or as high in fiber as using the the Kroger Active Lifestyle brand and just adding my own craisins to it.
